Reflection on competencies

During the years of studying, we have been able to learn all about these competencies project management, marketing, operational management, entrepreneur business, Imagineering and research. These roles are highly important to have knowledge about in order to be a successful event or leisure manager one day.

My strongest interest and best subjects are project management, marketing and Imagineering due to my qualities which are organization, creativity and being helpful towards others. I am very enthusiastic towards these subjects and willing to learn more about them as the years pass. In fact, I would like to fulfill my dream job in one of these departments in an event industry. Moreover, I would see myself as a possible entrepreneur one day, however I first need more experience in the working field to open up my own business, in fact I already have a couple ideas that could work out with a fellow student of mine. We see opportunities but we fear that we do not have enough knowledge yet for this.

In my view, I do not see myself as an operational manager, because I fear numbers and cannot deal with the budgeting or other financial stuff. Also I am not so interested managing the whole planning, systems and controls over the departments as I find it can bore me too fast and there is not much space for creativity. Completing that part of my studies was a challenge and now that I have at least the basic knowledge over all these competencies I believe the most suitable are in the more creative departments as mentioned earlier, I see myself as a project manager, marketeer and/or as an imagineer. Research is highly important for all competencies and I believe that knowing how to conduct research is needed to complete yourself as a young leisure manager. It is something that is always needed in any management jobs, especially in the leisure industry because trends and developments are constantly changing and these change people behavior.

Finding yourself in these competencies will lead you to what you are willing to complete later as a leisure manager. Acknowledging all subects and knowing all about them brings you to a great manger.
