Initially I wanted to start my internship earlier, due to some personal problems, I could not start my internship in September 2015, therefore I needed to postpone my plans. Also, I cannot go outside of europe anymore, even though I really wanted to fulfill my placement in New Zealand. Therefore, I now created a new placement plan and will start in January.
In September, I started looking for internships in Europe and started applying for the most interesting placements. I checked through business desk, the internet and asked friends and family if they knew any possible placement in the event industry. Through one of my fellow students I received a very interesting internship opportunity for me, specially in the field I want to work in. The company is called Festival.Travel, they promote and offer tickets, travel, accommodation and extra services for European festivals. In the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. I immediately got in contact with this company, even though they required an intern whom speaks fluent dutch. a few days later I got a response and they were willing to meet me and to get to know me. I believe, it is the perfect company to work for as an intern, plus they do exactly what I am interested in, which is music, festivals and expanding my marketing, social media and communication skills to a professional level. Currently, I am waiting for a confirmation from the Business Desk. If this gets approved I will be moving to Amsterdam in January. I hope to learn a lot from them and that I can play a great role in their company as well as bring new ideas to the organization. I believe this internship is a great opportunity for me to expand my network and to get a deeper insight about festivals in Europe.
During my placement I want to learn the following things:
- creative writting
- how to attract and maintain customers
- online and offline marketing
- how companies plan and organize their activities
- work life balance
- strengthen my weaknesses
- build self confidence
- learn from mistakes
- get an insight of how management is really dealt with
- find unhidden talents
- expand network
